Khaberni - Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan met with German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Reem Al-Abali-Radovan, where the meeting discussed ways to enhance economic and developmental cooperation between the two countries. This was followed by the signing of an additional grant agreement worth 22 million euros to contribute to financing the national water carrier project, raising the total German financing through grants for this project to 127 million euros.
Minister Toukan expressed her appreciation for the support provided for this strategic and important project that embodies Germany's commitment to enhancing water security, contributing to Jordan's ability to be resilient and adapt to the impacts of climate change. She also valued the Jordanian-German partnership and the ongoing support for development priorities including sectors such as water, employment, vocational and technical training, and public sector development. Minister Toukan also appreciated Germany's announcement of an additional 50 million euros to ensure the continuation of basic services provided to Syrian refugees in Jordan, especially in the education sector.
For her part, Minister Al-Abali-Radovan stressed that ending the war in Iran is an urgent necessity as soon as possible, due to its broad implications for the region, affecting Jordan's economic, political, and humanitarian levels. She added: "I came to Jordan today to affirm our solidarity, and to provide practical support that contributes to meeting the needs of Syrian refugees, alongside supporting the establishment of a sea water desalination project." She noted that this support is not only part of a humanitarian commitment but also contributes to enhancing stability, security, and opening better prospects for the region.
The meeting also touched upon preparations related to holding the upcoming official Jordanian-German talks for the years 2026-2027 on developmental cooperation, including the priorities of economic cooperation for the next phase. The ministers concluded by reaffirming their commitment to continue enhancing the strategic partnership between the two countries and advancing shared priorities.
