Khaberni - His Majesty King Abdullah II, at the Husseiniya Palace on Tuesday, received the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Mirjana Spoljaric Egger.
His Majesty expressed appreciation for the humanitarian role of the Committee and its effective efforts in alleviating the suffering of those affected by wars in conflict areas.
His Majesty the King emphasized the need for diplomacy in resolving conflicts in the region.
In turn, Spoljaric stressed the need to protect civilians in conflicts, pointing to the importance of Jordan's efforts, led by His Majesty the King, to achieve stability in the region.
The meeting addressed the upcoming high-level conference on humanitarian action in wars, which the Kingdom is set to host this year in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross and a number of countries as part of the "Global Initiative to Renew the Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law".
The meeting was attended by Her Highness Princess Rym Ali, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi, and the Director of His Majesty the King’s Office, Alaa Batayneh.
