Khaberni - The Palestinian presidency expressed its strong rejection and condemnation of the ratification of the law for the execution of Palestinian prisoners by Israeli occupation authorities, considering this law as a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention which guarantees protection of persons and fair trial rights, and its contradiction to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
In a statement, the presidency declared that this law constitutes a war crime against the Palestinian people, forming part of the escalation policies and measures taken by the occupation authorities across all Palestinian territories, including Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.
The presidency emphasized that these laws and measures will not succeed in breaking the will of the Palestinians or undermining their resilience, nor will they deter them from continuing their legitimate struggle and fight for their freedom and independence, and the establishment of their independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Palestinian presidency appreciated the statement issued by a number of countries which demands Israel to abandon the "execution of Palestinian prisoners" bill, aligning with the principles of international law.
It called on the international community to assume its legal and humanitarian responsibilities and take a serious and genuine stance to stop these violations, work on holding the occupation state accountable, and impose sanctions on it for its ongoing crimes against the Palestinians, including the torture, isolation, and systematic killing of prisoners and detainees in occupation jails.
The presidency also warned of the serious consequences of such racist laws, which are likely to increase tension and escalation, and threaten the chances of achieving security and stability in the region.
The Palestinian presidency reaffirmed its commitment that the prisoners' issue will remain at the forefront of its priorities, and that it will continue to work on all international levels to ensure their protection, release, and accountability for the crimes committed against them.
The Israeli Knesset General Assembly ratified, on Monday evening, in the second and third readings, the law for the execution of Palestinian prisoners.
62 members voted in favor of the law, while 48 voted against it, and one member abstained from voting.
