Shahadeh Gradual government plans to control prices and inflation amid war fallout

Khaberni - Minister of State for Economic Affairs Mohand Shahadeh confirmed that the government has put in place layered and multi-tool plans to control prices and deal with the expected wave of inflation, in the context of regional tensions and global price rises.

Shahadeh said on Monday that the main challenge in the current phase is not only the availability of goods, but in "maintaining inflation rates at a reasonable level," noting that global inflation has reflected on the region, and is expected to have a local impact as well.

He explained that the government adopted a gradual approach in making economic decisions to mitigate the impact of inflation on citizens, deciding to support the military logistical institution to provide basic goods at "reasonable and controlled" prices, contributing to protecting the purchasing power of citizens.

He added that among the measures taken was the prevention of exporting basic provisioning materials to ensure their availability in the local market, alongside facilitating industrialists' access to raw materials, ensuring continuous production and covering internal needs at appropriate prices.

Shahadeh pointed out that the government intensified market surveillance, affirming that strict legal measures will be taken against violators, while emphasizing that the private sector is a fundamental partner in maintaining market stability, despite some individual transgressions.

He indicated that the government might resort to imposing price ceilings if necessary, as part of its tools for controlling markets, calling on the private sector to expand its database and search for purchasing sources at preferential prices to mitigate the impact of rising prices.

He stressed that the government is committed to transparency with the citizens, using various available tools to control the markets and absorb part of the inflation, within a policy based on gradualism and avoiding sudden decisions.
