Peak of Traffic Accidents in Ramadan Despite Decrease in Deaths and Injuries in Jordan 2025

Khaberni - The annual report on traffic accidents for the year 2025 recorded a noticeable increase in the number of accidents during March, which coincided with the month of Ramadan, accounting for 10.3% of the total accidents.

According to the annual report on traffic accidents for the year 2025, issued by the Public Security Directorate and monitored by "Al-Mamlaka", the peak of collision, run-over, and rollover accidents occurred in the same month.

* General decline in accidents and deaths

Despite the peak of accidents in Ramadan, the report showed a general decline in the rate of accidents and deaths; the total number of traffic accidents decreased by more than 1.6% compared to 2024, and deaths decreased by 6.1%.

During the year 2025, the kingdom recorded a total of 187,213 traffic accidents, of which 11,680 were accidents resulting in human injuries, and these accidents resulted in 510 deaths and 17,146 injuries (909 severe injuries, 6,357 moderate, and 9,880 minor).

* Types of accidents

The report indicated that collision accidents accounted for 56.8% of the total accidents, followed by run-over accidents at 37.5%, and rollover accidents at 5.7%.

In terms of the severity of injuries, accidents that resulted in minor injuries constituted 47.4% of the total accidents, followed by moderate injuries at 41.8%, severe injuries at 6.8%, while death accidents accounted for 4.0%.

* Times of accidents

The data showed that Thursday was the most recorded day for accidents (15.6%), while Friday was the least (13.1%).

Collision accidents were concentrated on Thursdays (15.8% of their total), while run-over accidents peaked on Wednesday (16%), and rollover accidents on Thursday (17.2%).

Regarding the time periods, the highest percentage of injuries and deaths occurred between 6 PM and midnight, where 38.6% of deaths and 41.6% of severe injuries and 37.9% of moderate injuries were recorded.

* Geographical distribution

The report indicates that 91.2% of human injury accidents occurred within cities, with collision accidents accounting for 90.3% of accidents within cities and run-over accidents for 95.7%.

At the level of governorates, the capital Amman came first with 40.7% of accidents, followed by Irbid (17.4%) and then Zarqa (10.9%).

Despite the decrease in accidents in other governorates, rollover accidents remained high in Mafraq (10.1%) and Ma'an (11%).

The report draws attention to the increase in the number of vehicles registered in Jordan to 2,115,356 vehicles, in addition to the entry of 874,072 foreign vehicles into the kingdom during the year 2025, which increases the challenges facing traffic management and highlights the importance of developing infrastructure and control.
