Apple reveals its plans to expand iPhone manufacturing in America

Khaberni - Apple announced a new step to expand the manufacturing of iPhone components within the United States, by adding four new partners to its American production program.

The four companies are: "Cirrus Logic", "Bosch", "TDK", and "Qnity Electronics" and Apple will contribute $400 million to these partnerships until 2030.

Details of the American production program
The program is part of a larger commitment by Apple worth $600 billion over four years to strengthen domestic manufacturing.

Since the launch of AMP, Apple said it has imported more than 20 billion chips manufactured in America from 24 factories across 12 states, according to a report published by "phonearena".

This year alone, the company expects to purchase more than 100 million chips from the "TSMC" plant in Arizona, which is a notable jump from 2025.

The original partners have also made progress, such as "Amkor" which started building a $7 billion chip packaging facility in Arizona, and "Corning" which has dedicated its factory in Kentucky entirely to producing glass covers for iPhone and Apple Watch globally.

Why is this important?
These partnerships focus on specific components such as camera stabilization, accident detection, and Face ID technology, reflecting Apple's interest in keeping some of the more sensitive innovations within the United States rather than relying solely on foreign manufacturing.

The reality behind the numbers
Nevertheless, $400 million spread across four partners over more than four years is about $25 million per company annually, which is a trivial amount compared to Apple's market value exceeding $3.6 trillion.

The most advanced chips still come from Taiwan, and the vast majority of iPhones are assembled in China, and that has not changed.

Apple is playing the long game, balancing supply chain security and some political gains, with a focus on practical engineering within the United States.

However, if you are waiting for a "Made in America" label on the next iPhone box, you might need to be patient.
