Khaberni - An Italian couple wanted to enjoy a vacation at the Sharm El Sheikh resort in Egypt, only for their tourist trip to turn into an unusual event that caught the attention of the authorities after it was revealed that they had left their five children alone at home.
According to Italian media, the teacher teaching one of these children did not need an official report to feel that something was worrisome; the pictures the couple posted on social media throughout the vacation were enough to make her suspicious that the children were left unsupervised, so she immediately informed the authorities.
Apparently, one of the children disclosed the situation at home to his teacher, which then prompted the youth care agency along with the police to move towards the family's apartment in Trieste, northern Italy, according to the Italian news agency "ANSA".
As soon as the officials entered the apartment, the suspicions were confirmed, and it turned out that 5 children, aged between 8 and 17, were managing the household themselves, along with a number of pets.
And as reported by the Italian newspaper "La Repubblica", the children spent about 4 days alone, but they did not disrupt their daily routine, as they continued to go to school without missing a single day.
Eventually, the authorities intervened, taking the five children from the home and placing them together in a care institution, and the parents were informed of the situation, with the opportunity given to them to visit their children.
According to reports, custody has not been withdrawn from them yet, but their fitness as parents is under evaluation, in an effort to "create conditions to reunify the family as soon as possible", as reported by the authorities.
