Khaberni - The Department of Statistics issued its monthly report on construction activity and building permits in the kingdom for last January, where the total number of building permits issued in the kingdom reached 2296 permits, compared with 1920 permits during the same period of 2025, an increase of 19.6%.
The total area of licensed buildings was 741 thousand square meters, compared with 839 thousand square meters for the same month in 2025, a decrease of 11.7%.
Regarding the purposes of licensing, the areas licensed for residential purposes were about 660 thousand square meters, compared to about 579 thousand square meters during the same period of 2025, an increase of 14%, while the area of buildings licensed for non-residential purposes was about 81 thousand square meters, compared with about 260 thousand square meters during the same period of 2025, a decrease of 69%.
The area of buildings licensed for residential purposes constituted 89% of the total licensed building area, and 11% for non-residential purposes.
At the regional level, the Central Region accounted for 63.5% of the total licensed building area in the kingdom during the same month, a decrease of 6.2% for the same month of 2025, while the North Region accounted for 30.1 percent, an increase of 54.4% over the same period from 2025, and the South Region accounted for 6.4% with a decrease of 50%.
As for the relative distribution of licensed areas for residential purposes according to the provinces, Jerash Governorate recorded the highest percentage, which reached 13.1%, with an area of 0.079 square meters per person, while Madaba recorded the lowest percentage of the share per person for newly licensed areas, which was 3.1%, with an area amounting to 0.019 square meters per person.
The licensed area for new buildings and additions to existing buildings constituted 47.8% of the total licensed building area during last January, while the licensed area for existing buildings constituted 52.2%, and the total licensed area for new buildings and additions to existing buildings was about 354 thousand square meters, compared to about 546 thousand square meters during the same period from 2025, a decrease of 35.2%.
