Volkswagen recalls 94000 electric cars due to fire hazards

Khaberni - The German Volkswagen Group announced the recall of more than 90,000 electric cars of the "Volkswagen" and "Cupra" models around the world to technical workshops, according to a statement issued by the recall database of the Federal Motor Transport Authority in Flensburg, northern Germany.

This action is due to a defect in high-voltage battery units that may lead to issues ranging from the lighting of a yellow warning lamp, a reduction in driving range, to the risk of a fire outbreak.

The data clarified that the problem relates to battery units that do not meet the required specifications, and the Federal Motor Transport Authority confirmed that so far, no incidents have led to material damage or personal injuries, according to the German news agency "dpa".

According to the Authority, the affected cars include Volkswagen models "ID 3", "ID 4", "ID 5", and "ID Buzz", produced between June 24, 2023, and August 23, 2024, as well as the "Born" model from the sister brand "Cupra" manufactured between February 7, 2022, and April 21, 2024.

The total number of cars recalled globally is slightly over 94,000 vehicles, of which approximately 75,000 are from the Volkswagen brand and more than 19,000 from the Cupra brand. In Germany, the number of affected vehicles reaches 28,000, divided between 22,000 Volkswagen cars and 6,000 Cupra cars.
