Australia Bans Entry from Iran

Khaberni - Australia banned entry from Iran on Thursday, stating that the war in the Middle East increases the risk of visitors refusing to return to their homes once their short-term visas expire.

The Department of Home Affairs stated in a release that individuals holding Iranian passports will be prohibited from visiting Australia for tourism or work over the next six months.

The statement added, "The war in Iran has increased the risk that some holders of temporary visas may be unable or unwilling to leave Australia when their visas expire."

However, it clarified that there would be some exceptions based on individual cases, such as relatives of Australian citizens.

Minister for Home Affairs Tony Burke said, "Decisions regarding permanent residency in Australia must be well-considered by the government and not the random result of someone booking a holiday."

Government figures indicate that more than 85,000 Australian residents were born in Iran, with a significant expatriate community in major cities like Sydney and Melbourne.
