Khaberni - The Iraqi government summoned the acting head of the United States embassy in Baghdad, and handed him a sharply worded official protest memo, in response to the targeting of the Habbaniyah military clinic affiliated with the Ministry of Defense.
The government stated in a statement that the attack, which it described as "brutal aggression," resulted in the death of several and the injury of other members of the Iraqi army.
It emphasized that the assault occurred despite the political and diplomatic efforts being made by Baghdad to keep the country away from the ongoing conflict in the region, and its endeavors to stop the firing and enhance stability and freedom of trade and movement.
It stressed that the government and the armed forces reserve the right to respond with all available means, as authorized by the United Nations Charter, and considered what happened as a "crime" and a clear violation of international law.
