Civil Defense Increases Readiness and Warns of Floods During the Weather Depression

Khaberni - West Amman Civil Defense Director Colonel Ahmad Al-Ziyadat stated that the Public Security Directorate is working on developing a response system for all reports, through integration between formations and partnerships with state institutions, ensuring optimal handling of the expected weather conditions.

Al-Ziyadat explained on Wednesday that the directorate relies on regularly reviewing reports from the Meteorological Administration and mapping hazards to direct responses appropriately in time and place, noting expectations of heavy rainfall especially in the southern regions, with the possibility of flash floods and rising water levels.

He added that the Civil Defense has heightened the readiness of rescue and ambulance teams, and enhanced the deployment of water rescue teams, in addition to redistributing search and rescue teams across different provinces according to the affected areas. The readiness of operations rooms has also been increased to accommodate the expected rise in reports during the depression.

Al-Ziyadat warned against crossing valleys and bridges submerged by water or risking crossing water surfaces, confirming that such behaviors caused many accidents during previous depressions and led to the entrapment of vehicles and individuals inside them.

He also called for avoiding organizing tourist and exploratory trips in valleys during the depression period, due to the sudden dangers posed by flash floods.

He mentioned the possibility of rainwater invading some homes, especially in settlement areas, urging citizens to take simple preventive measures such as using sandbags and checking pumps, to reduce risks and alleviate pressure on civil defense personnel.

He warned of the dangers of using heating devices with the drop in temperatures, emphasizing the need for safe use, ensuring proper ventilation of the area, and not leaving them on while sleeping. He also advised against leaving children near valleys and water collections.
