Huge Investment of 50 Million Euros Leads Piqué into the Hotel World

Khaberni -  Media reports revealed that the former Spanish star Gerard Piqué has chosen to distance himself from traditional cities such as Barcelona and Madrid, preferring to direct a huge investment towards Malaga, in a luxurious hotel project exceeding 50 million euros.

El Bernabéu account on X stated that as a notable investment move reflecting Gerard Piqué's increasing orientation towards the business world, the decision came as a surprise to many, especially since Piqué is not associated with any sports background with Malaga, yet his choice was based on the significant economic growth that the city has seen in recent years, making it one of the most prominent investment and tourist destinations in the country.

Added: "The project began in the summer of 2021, when the family company 'Kerad Holding', chaired by his father Joan Piqué Rovira, completed a deal to buy the former Andalusia cinema site in the heart of the city for about 20 million euros".

He continued: "The site is located in a strategic area close to major landmarks, such as the Alcazaba Fortress, the Roman Theatre, and the Picasso Museum, which enhances its investment value".

He went on: "Later, about 30 million euros additional were invested to build the hotel, which evolved from a four-star hotel idea to a luxurious five-star facility carrying the 'Me by Melia' brand, belonging to Meliá Hotels International group, which stands as one of the prominent names in the luxury hospitality sector".

He added: "The project offers a comprehensive experience, as it includes 128 rooms, including luxury suites, in addition to a distinctive rooftop featuring an infinity pool and entertainment facilities aimed to become one of the top destinations in the city. The hotel was designed in a style that combines natural materials and contemporary art, with the presence of artworks inspired by the legacy of Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró".

He explained: "In terms of hospitality, the hotel relies on a sophisticated culinary experience overseen by chefs Javier Sanz and Juan Sahuquillo, who have received Michelin stars, which enhances its status as a complete luxury destination".

He stressed: "Despite the great ambition, the project faced challenges during the execution phase, the most notable of which was the discovery of archaeological remains dating back to a medieval Islamic cemetery, containing more than 250 graves, which led to a temporary halt of work to conduct the necessary archaeological studies".

He concluded: "After overcoming these obstacles, the hotel opened its doors in October (October) 2025, quickly earning widespread accolades, before entering in February (February) 2026 the nominations for the best hotel in Spain, according to National Geographic magazine ratings".
