Iran Nonhostile ships can pass through the Strait of Hormuz

Khaberni - The International Maritime Organization, on Tuesday, indicated that Iran sent it a statement dated Sunday stating that "non-hostile" ships can cross the Strait of Hormuz if they comply with safety and security conditions coordinated with the competent authorities.

The statement said "non-hostile ships... can benefit from safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz in coordination with the competent authorities, provided they are not engaged in or supporting hostile acts against Iran, and fully comply with the declared safety and security conditions."

The organization explained that the statement was issued by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a request to be disseminated by the International Maritime Organization, and added that it has shared it with member states and non-governmental organizations.

The statement emphasized that "equipment and any assets belonging to the aggressive parties, namely the United States and the Israeli regime, as well as other participants in the attack, are not eligible for peaceful or non-hostile passage."

The statement pointed out that the responsibility for "any disruption or lack of security or escalation of risks in this vital waterway" lies with the United States and Israel, whom it accused of launching "an unlawful and destabilizing war against Iran."

The statement considered that both countries "have jeopardized regional peace and stability, and posed unprecedented threats to international navigation."

Iran has almost completely closed this vital strait since the United States and Israel began launching strikes against it on February 28, leading to a sharp rise in global oil and gas prices.
