Minister of Agriculture 61 selfsufficiency rate in agricultural crops

Khaberni - Minister of Agriculture, Saeb Khreisat, confirmed on Tuesday that the situation of agricultural crops in Jordan is very secure, pointing out that the self-sufficiency rate reaches 61%.

Khreisat said to "Al-Mamlaka" that the agricultural sector has witnessed a significant improvement; it was the biggest sector contributing to GDP, reaching up to 9% of GDP last year.

He mentioned that there are prearranged procedures at the ministry in cooperation with all relevant institutions concerning the current conditions amidst the Iran war.

He explained that the ministry reviews all possibilities weekly to ensure the availability of goods.

He pointed out that the ministry had previously decided to stop the re-exportation of poultry production inputs, including feeds, corn, and soy, to preserve stockpiles, and has adopted different origins for the flow of red meat as needed.

He also mentioned that the ministry recommends importing and stopping imports as needed.

The minister confirmed that ships continuously arrive in Jordan and there is no interruption of resources, highlighting that Jordan does not import vegetables, but exports them.
