Egypt Announces Emergency Official Holiday for All Schools Due to Ghaith Depression

Khaberni  - The Ministry of Education in Egypt has announced granting all schools an emergency official holiday on Wednesday and Thursday throughout the country for students, teachers, and all school staff, due to the Ghaith depression affecting countries in the region, including Jordan.

A formal statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Education indicated that the official holiday, which comes one day after the Eid al-Fitr holiday, is due to the unstable weather conditions expected in some governorates starting tomorrow, Wednesday.

The ministry confirmed that the holiday applies to all public, private, and Al-Azhar schools across the republic, aiming to ensure equal opportunities among students in different governorates and to prevent discrimination between areas experiencing bad weather and others less affected.

This emergency holiday comes just one day after the end of the official Eid al-Fitr holiday, granted by the Egyptian government to all sectors, after which schools resumed studies normally.

Suspending studies due to poor weather conditions is a common precautionary measure in Egypt, especially during the winter and spring seasons when the Egyptian Meteorological Authority predicts heavy or thunderous rainfall, wind activity carrying dust, or a notable drop in temperatures in some governorates.

Through this decision, the ministry aims to protect the safety of more than 25 million students, in addition to teachers and workers in the educational system, from hazards such as slippery roads or traffic accidents caused by poor visibility or water accumulation.
