Khaberni - In light of Amman Arab University's commitment to enhancing a healthy and safe campus environment, the Supreme Committee for Smoking and Drug Control organized a training workshop for university security staff, presented by Prof. Dr. Rana Abu Hweij, head of the Supreme Committee for Smoking and Drug Control. The purpose is to enhance their role in implementing the no-smoking policy on campus, and to increase awareness of the procedures to be followed in dealing with violations, thereby supporting the university's efforts in establishing a healthy culture that maintains the safety of the university community.
The workshop addressed the mechanisms for university security staff to deal with smoking incidents within university facilities, where Dr. Abu Hweij indicated that the first step is to professionally alert the violators and inform them that smoking is prohibited inside enclosed areas on campus, emphasizing the need to maintain a distance of no less than seven meters from any gate or window of university buildings. Dr. Abu Hweij also mentioned that if the violator does not comply with the instructions after being alerted, the university security staff are authorized to document the violation, where student violations are referred to the Dean of Student Affairs for appropriate disciplinary action, while employee violations are escalated to the head of the Smoking Control Committee to follow up on necessary procedures according to the policies and instructions approved by the university.
In this regard, Dr. Abu Hweij emphasized the pivotal role of university security staff in supporting Amman Arab University's efforts to enforce the smoke-free campus policy, asserting that cooperation and integration among various entities within the university contribute to establishing a healthy and safe environment for all members of the university community, with full compliance with the approved procedures and instructions to ensure the effective implementation of no-smoking policies within the campus.
