The Hidden Impact of Phones on Gray Hair and Wrinkles

Khaberni - A recent study has warned that spending long hours in front of screens is not limited to affecting the eyes or concentration but may extend to include early signs of aging, such as gray hair, wrinkles, and hair loss.
Scientists have found that a specific type of light emitted from mobile phone screens, known as blue light from LED lamps, may contribute to accelerating the appearance of these signs. This high-energy light is produced to display bright colors but may affect skin cells with continued exposure.

It's not just phones either, as LED lamps are also used in the camera flash of most devices, which means that intensive use for taking and posting pictures on social media may not be without long-term side effects.
In a study involving 450 adults, about half of them admitted to using their devices for up to 7 hours a day while some exceeded this rate. It was found that users who used their phones more extensively were seven times more likely to have gray hair compared to those who used them for two hours a day, and they also showed higher rates of skin dryness, wrinkles, dark circles, and hair loss.

Although this study did not definitively determine the direct causes of these effects, other research suggests that blue light can penetrate deeply into the skin, stimulating the production of molecules that may contribute to the breakdown of collagen and elastin, both essential elements for maintaining skin elasticity and brightness.

In light of these findings, experts in the "Journal of the Pakistan Medical Association" emphasize the importance of increasing awareness of the potential risks associated with excessive screen use, and call for moderation in their use to preserve overall health and appearance.
