Berry Extract Improves Gut Health and Reduces Inflammation in Lab Trials

Khaberni - A recent scientific study has shown that berries contain substances that help the body adapt to the effects of a diet rich in fats and cholesterol, improving liver and intestinal functions.

During their research, scientists studied the effect of "anthocyanin" extract obtained from berry fruits on body health, specifically its impact on gut bacteria, inflammation, and liver metabolism processes.

During the experiments, scientists introduced "anthocyanin" extract into the diet of experimental mice that were at risk of obesity and atherosclerosis diseases, and they observed that after receiving this extract, the mice showed reduced levels of harmful cholesterol and the inflammation marker Interleukin-1β, increased levels of the antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase, and at the same time, the composition of their gut bacteria changed, with an increase in the numbers of bacteria that improve metabolic processes, and a decrease in the numbers of bacteria that cause inflammation.

Furthermore, the levels of some important metabolites in the livers of the lab animals changed after receiving anthocyanin supplements, with decreased levels of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and some compounds associated with the inflammatory response, while the levels of glutamine increased.

Researchers believe that the impact on metabolic processes and gut bacteria composition are the mechanisms through which berries could mitigate risk factors associated with atherosclerosis.

Scientists confirm that the study was conducted on lab animals, so it is premature to apply its results to humans. Nevertheless, the data suggest that "anthocyanin" extracted from berry fruits might be a promising natural tool to reduce inflammation and correct metabolic disorders.
