Warnings of a historical rise in fuel prices in Jordan

Khaberni - Economists have warned of a potential significant rise in fuel prices in Jordan in the coming period, driven by escalating military tensions and rising global oil prices, against the backdrop of the American-Israeli war against Iran, and the direct disturbances in energy markets that accompanied it.

The experts indicated that the price of a 90-octane gasoline tanker could reach about 21 dinars, while the price of a diesel tanker could approach 20 dinars, which are unprecedented levels in the history of the kingdom, necessitating, according to their estimates, urgent government intervention to alleviate the burdens on citizens and the private sector.

The specialists confirmed that these increases may not be temporary, especially if regional tensions continue or the scope of the conflict expands, which could lead to further pressures on global energy supplies, and directly reflect on transport costs and the prices of goods and services locally.

Economists also warned of complex scenarios that the region could face, requiring government and community preparedness to ensure the continuity of vital services, including electricity, water, and energy.

They called for quick precautionary measures, such as reducing working hours in some sectors, closing shops, malls, and cafes early, in addition to activating remote education in schools and universities, with the aim of easing the pressure on infrastructure.

They also emphasized the importance of enhancing the protection of refineries, power stations, and fuel depots, and securing strategic stocks, especially after targeting energy facilities in the region, which threatens the stability of supplies.

The experts concluded by emphasizing that the possibility of further escalation imposes raising the level of readiness, to maintain economic and social stability in Jordan and neighboring countries.
