6 Simple Steps to Protect Your Washer from Mold

Khaberni - Washing clothes might seem simple, but it carries mistakes that can lead to mold accumulation inside the washer, according to experts at AO.com.

The washer is not just a place for washing.
Experts revealed that closing the washer door immediately after the washing cycle can seem tidy, but it contributes to the accumulation of moisture inside the rubber door seal, creating an ideal environment for mold and bacteria growth.

Laundry appliance expert, Gwiel Snook, says: "Rubber door seals are one of the biggest places where mold proliferates in the home, as they trap moisture, detergent residues, and fabric fibers".

He added: "The door seal folds inward, which keeps it damp for a long time after the washing has ended, especially if the door remains closed".

Signs of mold presence
If you notice a bad smell on your clothes when taking them out of the washer, or smell something odd when opening the door, mold accumulation might be the reason.

Tips to maintain your washer
Snook offered six essential tips to avoid mold:

Leave the door and detergent drawer open after each wash to allow the washer to air dry.
Wipe the door seal and drum monthly to prevent the accumulation of dirt and mold before it turns into a bigger problem.
Regularly clean the detergent drawer and filter, as these areas are often the cause of unpleasant smells.
Use an empty cleaning cycle with white vinegar if signs of mold appear, because regular detergents alone are not sufficient.
Avoid overloading the washer, as overfilling the tub or leaving wet clothes creates an ideal damp environment for mold.
Remove wet clothes immediately after the washing cycle to prevent moisture buildup.
The expert confirms that following these simple habits keeps the washer clean, eliminates bad odors, prolongs the device's lifespan, and ensures healthy clothes washing.
