Power Outage Affects About 10 Million People in Cuba

Khaberni - The national electricity network operator in Cuba announced that the network suffered a collapse on Saturday, resulting in a power outage affecting about 10 million people amidst an oil blockade imposed by the United States, which has crippled the island's already dilapidated power generation system.

The network operator, "UNE," announced the outage on social media, saying it will continue to post the latest updates.

The United States had cut off Venezuelan oil supplies to Cuba and threatened to impose tariffs on countries that ship fuel to it.

Earlier this month, US President Donald Trump stated that Cuba is living its last moments.

He said: "The Cuban government is negotiating with us, and they are in big trouble. They have no money. They have nothing right now, but they are negotiating with us, and perhaps we will carry out a friendly takeover of Cuba."

Trump described Cuba as a failed state in need of change, adding that he had been hearing about its problems since he was young.
