Bassem Samra Criticizes Social Media Panels and Rejects Falsifying the Success of Works

Khaberni - Egyptian artist Bassem Samra criticized what he described as the phenomenon of «social media committees» that promote certain artistic works and inflate their viewing figures.

He considered that this phenomenon contributes to falsifying the audience's awareness regarding the reality of artistic success.

In televised statements, Samra said that the production company of his series «Magical Eye» did not allocate budgets to support the work through these committees, emphasizing that professional production well understands where its spending goes, and does not direct money for artificial promotion at the expense of work quality.

He added that some works have large budgets allocated for misleading promotion, aimed at convincing the audience of a success that is not real, through exaggerated viewership numbers, which he considered a distortion of the artistic reality.

Samra pointed out that this phenomenon was prevalent in a previous period, but the audience has become more aware of it now, calling on artists to focus on developing their roles and presenting diverse works instead of seeking to prove superiority through non-objective means.

He affirmed that the audience alone has the final say, warning against attempts to influence their opinion indirectly, whether through paid campaigns or directed awards, noting that good work imposes itself without falsification.

Samra also criticized the rising individualism among some workers in the field, considering that self-aggrandizement and reliance on stirring controversy through social media do not create real success, but rather perpetuate a state of illusion.

Bassem Samra participated in the Ramadan drama season of 2026 through the series «Magical Eye», which was aired in the first half of the month, featuring a host of artists, including Essam Omar, Fedra, Amro Abdel Jalil, Sama Ibrahim, Jana Al-Ashqar, Faten Saeed, and is written by Hisham Halal and directed by Sadeer Masoud.
