Khaberni - One person was killed and others were injured early Saturday, due to raids and artillery shelling by Israel targeting various areas in southern Lebanon, in addition to the southern suburbs of Beirut.
The Lebanese National News Agency reported that Israeli aircraft launched a severe raid on a house in the town of Ghunduriah in the Bent Jbeil district, resulting in one fatality and two injuries, with the wounded extracted from the debris.
The raid coincided with renewed Israeli artillery shelling on the towns of Naqoura, Hamoul in the Sour District, and several villages in Marjayoun District including Khiam, Taybeh, Markaba, Hula, and Shaqra.
Additionally, several people were injured in a raid targeting a house in the town of Kafrā in the Bent Jbeil district, and Israeli forces began a sweeping search operation in the town of Khiam under an artillery cover fire.
In Beirut, the agency confirmed that Israeli warplanes conducted raids early Saturday on the southern suburbs following prior warnings to evacuate 7 neighborhoods, pointing to two raids on the regions of Ghobeiry and Burj al-Barajneh.
On its part, the Israeli army announced that it had carried out attacks on the Lebanese capital, claiming to target Hezbollah positions.
Attacks and Clashes
In response, Lebanese Hezbollah announced targeting gatherings of Israeli soldiers in southern villages, including Aytaroun and Marakaba, among others, also launching missiles across the border while the Israeli army reported alarm sirens activation.
Hezbollah indicated that its fighters targeted a Merkava tank in the village of Taybeh and engaged with Israeli forces between the towns of Alma al-Shaab and Dahirat using "light and medium weapons," with no further details, while the occupation claimed it killed several members of the party during confrontations in the south.
Aoun's Proposal
Politically, a proposal by Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to begin direct negotiations with Israel to end the war with Hezbollah was welcomed by the U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon, Michael Issa, saying that peace between the countries cannot be achieved without meetings with the Israeli side.
Regarding Israel's cessation of its strikes in Lebanon, the ambassador stated in remarks made to the Lebanese media following his meeting with Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai: "I think it has decided not to stop, which means that it is up to Lebanon to decide whether it can meet with the Israeli side in this situation."
Since the 2nd of this month, war has erupted between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon following the launch of missiles by the party towards Israel, said to be in response to the killing of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in Israeli-American attacks in Iran, in addition to responding to "ongoing Israeli aggressions on Lebanon."
The occupation is launching severe raids on various parts of Lebanon and conducting ground incursions along the border, where the Lebanese Ministry of Health indicates that the war has resulted in the deaths of more than a thousand people in Lebanon and the displacement of more than a million.
