Khaberni - US Treasury Secretary Scott Biesent stated that President Trump's administration granted a 30-day exemption from sanctions for the purchase of Iranian oil in international waters on Friday, in an effort to ease pressures on energy supplies since the outbreak of the American-Israeli war on Iran.
This is the third time that the United States has granted a temporary exemption from sanctions within approximately two weeks.
The United States had previously eased sanctions on Russian oil, and on Friday, issued a general license allowing the sale of crude oil and Iranian petroleum products loaded on ships from March 20 to April 19, according to the license published on the Treasury Department's website.
Biesent said in a statement on the "X" platform: “By temporarily opening up this current supply to the world, the United States will quickly provide about 140 million barrels of oil to global markets, increasing the amount of global energy and helping to alleviate the temporary pressures on supplies caused by Iran.”
Biesent added, “In short, we will use the Iranian barrels against Tehran to keep prices low while we continue the operation dubbed Epoch of Rage.”
