Khaberni - The Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced the arrest of 178 people suspected of involvement in spying for the United States and Israel since the beginning of the American-Israeli war on Iran.
The official Iranian news agency "IRNA" quoted a statement issued today, Thursday, by the Revolutionary Guard stating that its intelligence had arrested several foreigners in possession of "military and technical equipment, weapons, location devices, special communication means, and foreign currencies".
According to the statement, these detainees "have been providing espionage agencies in the United States and Israel with information about the locations of the Iranian Red Crescent centers and checkpoints since the beginning of the war."
Today, Thursday, the Iranian authorities executed 3 people convicted of killing police officers during protests at the beginning of this year, and also executed a Swedish citizen accused of spying for Israel amid a diplomatic crisis with Stockholm.
The judicial authority-affiliated website "Mizan Online" reported the hanging of 3 people in the city of Qom, who were convicted of committing acts of "hiraba" (unlawful warfare), "espionage," and "corruption on earth" during the January protests.
Widespread Arrest Campaign
The Iranian authorities launched a widespread arrest campaign among those it describes as traitors and agents, following the recent assassinations that included the Secretary of the Supreme Council for National Security, Ali Larijani, Minister of Intelligence Ismail Khatib, and commander of the Basij forces Brigadier General Gholam Reza Soleimani.
Last Tuesday, Iran announced the arrest of 55 people in the southern province of Hormozgan, claiming they were connected to the United States and Israel, according to the Iranian "Tasnim" agency.
The official Iranian television also announced last Sunday, quoting a statement from the Public Prosecutor's Office in West Azerbaijan province, the arrest of 20 people suspected of spying for the benefit of the United States and Israel.
The current and previous war in June revealed significant security breaches in Iran, with a series of assassinations of prominent leaders, political, military officials, and Iranian scientists, notably the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Since February 28, the United States and Israel have been waging a war on Iran, which has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of people, including the leader Ali Khamenei and security officials, while Tehran responds by launching rockets and drones towards Israel.
Iran targets what it claims to be American sites and interests in Arab countries, although some attacks have killed and wounded civilians and damaged civilian sites, which the targeted countries have condemned.
