Khaberni - The Israeli newspaper "Jerusalem Post" revealed on Tuesday some details of the Israeli military's assassination operation of Ali Larijani, the secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council.
The Israeli Defense Minister, Israel Katz, announced on Tuesday the killing of Larijani in a strike carried out by the air force last night, while official Iranian sources have not yet confirmed the news.
According to the "Jerusalem Post", Ali Larijani was Israel’s first target after the assassination of the previous supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, on February 28.
The newspaper explained, quoting military sources, that Israel allocated substantial intelligence and operational resources to track and pinpoint his movements.
According to the newspaper, Larijani was not an easy target to track and identify as he was experienced in evading surveillance and took a number of precautions to delay and prevent tracking, and he was constantly moving between secret locations over the past two weeks.
Elimination of Larijani
The sources noted that "the extent of precautions that Larijani took to stay away from the reach of Israeli fire after the assassination of the Iranian guide reflects how much the Iranian senior leadership felt targeted."
The source mentioned contributions from "special capabilities in tracking him," alongside a quick decision from the Chief of Staff of the Israeli Army, Eyal Zamir, and the political level in carrying out the assassination operation.
The sources added that providing the senior command with intelligence information and their issuing the orders for an air force plane to take off 1600 km away paved the way for Larijani's elimination.
On the same night, Israel assassinated a commander of the Basij forces after they located and killed him while he was hiding in temporary tents, and significant officials in the same organization were neutralized in various locations.
Larijani was among the prominent figures who linked the security establishment to the political circle and decision-making centers associated with the guide in Iran, holding the position of secretary of the Supreme National Security Council twice, the first from 2005 to 2007, and the second since August 2025, as well as heading the parliament from 2008 to 2020, and was previously a pivotal figure in managing the Iranian nuclear file.
Larijani was among the officials who were spotted by the United States, a few days ago, offering a reward for anyone who provides information leading to them.
