The government launches the first phase of the school transportation project in partnership with the private sector

The Cabinet decided in its session held today, Tuesday, chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Jafar Hassan, to proceed with the procedures to start implementing the first phase of the school transportation project in partnership with the private sector, which will be applied for the first time in the Kingdom.
This project is expected to have a significant positive impact on students and the educational process, addressing transportation challenges they face, providing comprehensive and free school transportation for students in public schools at no cost to the student.
The implementation of the first phase will begin in the southern Badia areas, covering 60 schools spread across the provinces of Karak, Tafila, Ma'an, and Aqaba, with gradual expansion to include all provinces of the Kingdom, particularly the central and northern Badia regions.
The project execution will start from the upcoming academic year scheduled to begin in August 2026, spanning two years, and will serve about eight thousand male and female students in the southern Badia regions in its first phase.

During the first phase, 120 modern buses equipped with monitoring and tracking systems and cameras will be operated, connected to an electronic application through which parents can track their children students during their journey to and from schools.
The first phase of the project will provide 220 job opportunities for drivers, technicians, and maintenance workers, with special quality training provided to them to match the nature of the project and its needs.

The signing of the first-phase agreement of the project will take place in the second half of April next year, at a cost of approximately 1.320 million Jordanian Dinars financed by the treasury, where a coalition of Singaporean, Chinese, and local companies will supply the buses and implement the project, noting that these companies have experience in this field, having implemented similar projects in countries like Qatar, Sultanate of Oman, and others.

The school transportation project aligns with the government's efforts to develop a modern transportation system in the capital and the provinces, through the expansion of regular transportation projects and the rapid transit bus project.
