Khaberni - The "New York Times" reported, citing its sources, that the United States is seeking to overthrow Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel without changing the political system in Cuba.
The sources said the Americans hinted to the Cuban negotiators that President Diaz-Canel should step down, and the decision regarding the next steps would be made by the Cubans themselves.
It added that Washington won’t insist on any measures against the Castro family, but clearly stated that any deal would be impossible as long as Diaz-Canel remains in office.
A source for the newspaper indicated that officials in President Donald Trump’s administration believe that overthrowing the President of Cuba would allow for structural economic changes in the country that Diaz-Canel might not support.
President Donald Trump had issued threats towards Cuba, indicating that the United States might take actions against it following the operation in Iran.
On Monday, Trump said that he could take over Cuba "in one way or another."
