Khaberni - The Iranian authorities announced a raise in the minimum wage by more than 60%, according to local media on Sunday, in the annual increase that comes after months of anti-government protests sparked by livelihood issues.
Iran adjusts the minimum wage annually relative to inflation, which has reached record levels under the impact of international sanctions in the months preceding the war with the United States and Israel.
Tasnim Agency quoted the Minister of Labor as saying that "after the government's approval", the monthly minimum wage will rise from 103 million rials to 166 million in the coming year, which begins in a few days, according to the solar Hijri calendar adopted by Iran.
According to the exchange rate in the black market, the new minimum wage is approximately 112 dollars.
Protests erupted in Iran in late December on livelihood issues, which soon turned into a movement raising slogans against the leadership of Iran.
The crackdown faced by the authorities against the protests resulted in the death of thousands.
