Araghchi Iran sees no reason to negotiate with the United States

Khaberni - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced on Sunday that Tehran is not interested in holding talks with Washington, in response to US President Donald Trump’s statements that Iran wants an agreement to end the war.

Araghchi said in an interview with CBS, aired on Sunday, "We are stable and strong enough. We are only defending our people."

He continued, "We see no reason to talk with the Americans, because we were talking to them when they decided to attack us," noting that previous experiences of dialogue with the Americans "were not good."

Trump said on Saturday in an interview with NBC News that he believes Tehran is eager to come to the negotiating table, but Washington will continue the war for better terms, without going into further details.

Araghchi said, "We never asked for a ceasefire, nor did we ever request negotiations." He noted that Iran is ready to talk with countries that want to negotiate to allow the passage of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.

He continued, "I cannot name any specific country, but several countries want to ensure a safe passage for their ships and have reached out to us."
