Study Daily Coffee Consumption Reduces Risk of Mental Disorders

Khaberni - A large-scale scientific study has shown that daily and regular consumption of coffee may be associated with a reduced risk of certain mental disorders such as stress and mood disorders.

The researchers reached this conclusion after analyzing data from more than 460,000 people obtained from the UK Biobank, where they studied the relationship between the amount of coffee participants drank and the likelihood of developing mental disorders over a long follow-up period averaging 13.4 years. During this period, more than 18,000 cases of each type of mental disorder included in the study were recorded.

The data analysis showed that individuals who consumed 2 to 3 cups of coffee daily had a lower risk of developing mental disorders. In contrast, this protective effect was weaker for those who drank much less or much more than this amount.

The results also revealed that this protective association was more pronounced among men than women. Notably, genetic factors related to the speed of caffeine metabolism in the body did not affect this discovered relationship.

The researchers believe that the anti-inflammatory properties in coffee and its impact on biological processes related to brain functions may be behind this potential protective effect.
