Khaberni - BBC Sport revealed that the management of Arsenal, the leader of the Premier League, has started its official talks with international star Declan Rice to sign a new long-term contract that ensures his stay in "North London" during his peak football years.
The source mentioned that the new offer will include a significant increase in Rice's weekly salary (currently at 240,000 pounds sterling), to enhance his status as one of the highest-paid players in the club, similar to his colleague Bukayo Saka who recently signed a contract with a salary of no less than 300,000 pounds sterling weekly.
Although Rice's current contract still has two more years with an option to extend for a third year, "the Gunners" prefer to settle the matter early to avoid any external temptations.
A crucial pillar in "Arteta's" lineup
BBC Sport pointed out in its report that the 27-year-old has proven his worth since his transfer from West Ham for 105 million pounds sterling in 2023, having played 102 matches in the Premier League with Arsenal and becoming one of the best midfielders in Europe and an indispensable pillar in the English national team with 72 international appearances.
Strategy for continental stability
This move is part of Arsenal's strategy to maintain its core team, where the club has succeeded in extending contracts of notable names such as Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães, and the young duo Nwaneri and Louis Skill, in addition to opening parallel talks with defender Jurrien Timber.
