Rocket hits helicopter landing pad at the US Embassy in Baghdad

Khaberni - Two Iraqi officials reported that a rocket hit a helicopter landing pad at the US Embassy in Baghdad. Associated Press footage showed a column of smoke rising this Saturday morning above the embassy compound. An unnamed Iraqi security official told France Presse that "a drone hit the embassy" and another security source confirmed that an attack targeted the diplomatic mission.

This attack follows a series of strikes targeting the Iraqi Hezbollah Brigades before dawn on Saturday, which resulted in the deaths of two people in Baghdad according to multiple sources. The sprawling embassy compound, one of the largest US diplomatic facilities in the world, has been frequently targeted with rockets and drones launched by Iran-aligned militias.

The US Embassy in Baghdad did not immediately comment. On Friday, the embassy renewed its level four security warning for Iraq, cautioning that Iran and militias aligned with it have previously conducted attacks against American citizens, interests, and infrastructure, and "may continue to target them".
