Khaberni - The Attorney General of the UAE, Counselor Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, ordered the arrest of (10) suspects of various nationalities.
This followed their publishing of video clips that included real scenes of air defenses repelling attacks and their effects, or clips that showed projectiles on the ground or gatherings of people watching events, in addition to publishing other artificial and fake clips created using artificial intelligence techniques suggesting the occurrence of targeting or explosions within the country, or targeting prominent landmarks therein, or the breakout of widespread fires and rising smoke columns in various areas of the country, contrary to the truth.
The incidents also included exploiting the emotions of children in video clips suggesting the occurrence of security events within the country contrary to the truth, in addition to publishing clips claiming the destruction of facilities or military bases within the country, and attributing video clips to incidents that happened outside the country as if they occurred inside it, thereby misleading public opinion and causing fear and anxiety among community members.
The publication of these clips, whether real or fabricated, was likely to affect public security and cause confusion, as well as provide hostile media with materials that could be exploited to distort facts and undermine confidence in the competent authorities, and what it might reveal some defense capabilities.
The Public Prosecution has commenced investigation with the suspects in the attributed incidents and ordered their precautionary detention.
The Attorney General clarified that these actions constitute crimes punishable by law with imprisonment for no less than one year and a fine of no less than (100,000) one hundred thousand Dirhams, for involving deliberate deception, assault on public security, spreading terror among individuals, and undermining community peace.
The Attorney General confirmed that the Public Prosecution will not relent in pursuing anyone who exploits cyberspace or modern technologies to spread misleading information or fabricated content that affects the security of the state or disrupts the peace of the community, or circulates clips showing the state's defenses against these attacks and the consequences of their publication that affect security and public interest, stressing that anyone proven to be involved in such acts will be subject to immediate criminal accountability, and that the competent authorities continue to monitor and follow these practices and take robust legal actions against the perpetrators.
