Jordan and the Gulf States Discuss Enhancing Partnership and Escalation in the Region

Khaberni - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, participated last Thursday evening in the eighth joint ministerial meeting between the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, held via video communication.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the 167th meeting of the Gulf Ministerial Council, discussed prospects for enhancing joint cooperation, activating the work of joint committees established to frame and expand institutional cooperation across multiple vital sectors of mutual interest.

Chaired by Bahrain's Foreign Minister Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani, in his capacity as the current president of the GCC, the meeting reaffirmed the deep-rooted brotherly historical relations between Jordan and the GCC countries. It emphasized the importance of enhancing and developing these relations in various fields, particularly in security, defense, economic, and investment sectors.

The meeting also discussed the regional situations and the serious implications of the escalation currently witnessed in the region, Iranian attacks on Arab countries, and prospects for restoring calm and activating diplomacy as a means to enhance security and stability.

During the meeting, Safadi affirmed the depth of Jordan’s relations with the GCC countries, emphasizing the importance of the eighth joint ministerial meeting in enhancing cooperation across various sectors.

Safadi highlighted the importance of the steps taken to translate the strategic partnership between Jordan and the GCC into broader economic, commercial, defense, security, and political cooperation.

He stressed the importance of holding the second Jordanian-Gulf investment conference soon.

Safadi appreciated the efforts made by the GCC countries in taking care of Jordanian citizens residing and working in these countries.

During the meeting, Safadi renewed condemnation of the Iranian attacks that target the Kingdom and the Arab Gulf countries, affirming Jordan's solidarity with its brothers in facing these attacks and supporting all measures they take to protect their security, stability, sovereignty, and the safety of their citizens.

Safadi valued the efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain, as a non-permanent member and representative of the Arab group at the Security Council, in proposing the Jordanian-Gulf resolution adopted by the Security Council number 2817, which condemns the unjustified Iranian attacks targeting Jordan and the sisterly Gulf countries, receiving broad international sponsorship.

The meeting discussed prospects for restoring security and stability and adopting dialogue as a means to resolve disputes.

The meeting also discussed regional situations and developments linked to the Palestinian issue, where Safadi affirmed the centrality of the Palestinian issue and the common stance in supporting the Palestinian people and their right to freedom and an independent state with sovereignty over their national territory. Safadi emphasized the need to end the humanitarian disaster in Gaza, stop the illegitimate Israeli actions in the West Bank undermining all opportunities for achieving just peace, and warned of the danger of Israel continuing to close the doors of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif to worshippers.

Safadi affirmed support for the Lebanese government in its efforts to activate its institutions and confine arms to the state, insisting on rejecting Israeli aggression on Lebanon and demanding its cessation, warning of the security, economic, and political repercussions on the entire region.

Safadi emphasized the common position in supporting the Arab Republic of Syria and the efforts of the Syrian government in rebuilding the nation and meeting the aspirations of the Syrian brotherly people after years of oppression and suffering.

In turn, the ministers and representatives of the GCC countries who participated in the meeting praised the close historical brotherly relations between the Gulf Arab countries and Jordan, looking forward to enhancing cooperation in various fields to serve mutual interests. They also expressed their full solidarity with the Kingdom in the face of Iranian attacks on its territory.
