Khaberni - Today, Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa received Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Al-Safadi, Chief of the Joint Staff Major General Yousef Al-Hunaity, and Director of General Intelligence Major General Ahmad Hosni, in the presence of Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Al-Shaibani.
Al-Safadi conveyed the greetings of His Majesty King Abdullah II to His Excellency, and a message from His Majesty affirming the Kingdom’s support for fraternal Syria, and keenness to enhance the historic brotherly relations between the two brotherly countries.
The Syrian President sent his greetings to His Majesty the King, affirmed the depth of the brotherly relations between the two countries, and their commitment to enhancing broader cooperation in various fields, serving both peoples and countries.
Al-Safadi, Al-Hunaity, and Hosni held extensive discussions with Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Al-Shaibani, Syrian Minister of Defense Murhaf Abu Qasra, and Syrian General Intelligence Director Hussein Al-Salamah on ways to enhance bilateral relations and regional developments.
The discussions addressed defense and security cooperation between the two countries, where both delegations confirmed their continued cooperation in combating terrorism, drug smuggling, and arms trafficking through established joint mechanisms.
Al-Safadi and Al-Shaibani expressed their satisfaction with the continuous progress in brotherly relations between the two brotherly countries in various fields, and the importance of continuing joint efforts to expand cooperation, reflecting the depth of relations and positively impacting both the Kingdom and Syria.
The ministers confirmed the continued efforts to develop cooperation prospects and discussed targeted practical steps to follow up on bilateral cooperation in numerous vital sectors including economy, trade, transport, water, energy, defense, and security.
Al-Safadi and Al-Shaibani tasked liaison officials in both countries' foreign ministries to prepare for holding the second session of the Supreme Coordination Council in Amman soon, completing the work of the council whose first meeting was held on May 20, 2025.
Al-Safadi reiterated during the meeting the Kingdom's full support for the Syrian government's reconstruction efforts and recovery and development journey, based on principles that ensure Syria's unity, security, stability, and sovereignty and protect the rights of all Syrians.
The meeting also discussed the implications of the serious escalation in the region, the Iranian attacks on Arab countries, and the prospects for restoring calm and activating diplomacy as a means of consolidating security and stability.
Al-Safadi and Al-Shaibani renewed their condemnation of the unjustified Iranian attacks on Jordanian territory and brotherly Gulf States.
The ministers reiterated their condemnation of the repeated Israeli attacks and incursions into Syria, constituting a flagrant violation of international law, an attack on Syria's sovereignty aiming to destabilize its security and stability and threatening the security and stability of its citizens and the regional security, as well as violating the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, with a demand for Israel's immediate withdrawal to the agreement lines.
The ministers agreed to continue the coordination and consultation at all levels, including bilateral and regional.
