Khaberni - As users increasingly rely on smartphones to store photos, messages, and personal data, the issue of privacy protection when sending the phone to service centers has become a concern for many.
Therefore, technology companies have started developing a new feature known as “Repair Mode” in Android phones. This feature allows hiding personal data during the repair process without having to delete it completely.
Information Protection
Repair Mode is a feature designed to protect personal information when handing the phone over to a maintenance technician. When this mode is activated, the system creates a separate operating environment allowing the technician to test the device without access to the user's photos, messages, or apps.
The idea is based on creating a temporary user profile or a limited-privileges account, so the technician can inspect the phone's basic functions such as the screen, camera or battery, without accessing private data.
Once the maintenance process is finished, the user can deactivate this mode and revert to the normal system, and all their data will be available as it was before the repair.
Activation Method
The method to activate this feature varies slightly depending on the phone type, but it is usually available in the system settings. In some Android devices, like Pixel, the feature can be accessed from the settings menu by selecting Repair Mode and enabling it after entering the device’s lock code.
After that, the phone automatically restarts and enters a limited-use environment, where only basic apps are available, and access to personal files and sensitive data is disabled.
In Samsung phones, this feature is called Maintenance Mode and can be accessed through the settings.
When Repair Mode is activated, the phone's functions become limited. The technician can turn on the device and perform technical tests, but without the ability to access photos, messages, or personal accounts.
Any changes made during this mode are not saved after exiting it. This feature helps reduce the need for a full phone reset before sending it for maintenance, a step many users resorted to in order to protect their data.
Enhancing Privacy
Technology experts believe that Repair Mode represents an important step towards enhancing the protection of personal data on smartphones.
With the expanding use of this feature in modern Android devices, it may become a standard in the world of smartphones, especially with growing concerns about user privacy and information security.
