Royal Author Princess Diana was preparing Harry to succeed the throne

Khaberni - The veteran royal writer Richard Kay revealed that Princess Diana believed that Prince Harry might one day become king, considering that his elder brother, Prince William, the “shy” might not wish to take up the “highest office”.

In statements on the "Palace Secrets" podcast by "Daily Mail," Kay said that Diana was aware of William's reservation towards his future royal role and was preparing Harry for the possibility of succeeding the throne, giving him a special title: "Good King Harry," inspired by the medieval era.

He added: "William was a shy and reserved young man, and his mother never thought he aspired to wear the crown one day, so she considered the possibility that Harry might succeed their father. However, things did not go this way, and we are all grateful for that."

Kay noted that William has matured in his royal role alongside his wife, Kate Middleton, and has devised new ways of handling the royal family, realizing that some aspects of the royal system need changes to ensure its continuity.

A friendship developed between Diana and Kay, who covered royal family news for forty years, and the princess shared details of her personal life with him, and sometimes they went to the cinema together. Diana died in August 1997 at the age of 36 following a car accident in Paris.

On a personal level, the brothers William and Harry maintained a distance between them on several occasions, such as the memorial service for their uncle Lord Robert Fellowes in August 2024, despite their previous meetings to unveil their mother’s statue in July 2021 and attending the funeral of Queen Elizabeth in September 2022.

During Prince Harry's visit to Britain in September 2025, the brothers did not meet despite their geographical proximity on some occasions.
