Khaberni - The Jordanian Ministry of Justice applied electronic monitoring (electronic bracelet) to 29 cases as an alternative to penalties during February 2026.
The ministry mentioned that 5 cases were subject to detention alternatives during the same period, as part of its efforts to expand the use of alternative penalties and reduce reliance on imprisonment.
The electronic bracelet is worn by the defendants on the lower part of the ankle for individuals subjected to electronic monitoring, and if it is removed, tampered with, or if they exceed the geographic area they are allowed to be in, a signal is sent to the command and control center of the General Security Directorate to determine their location and notify the nearest police patrol to reach them and take necessary actions according to the law.
This measure is part of the ministry's policy to reduce congestion in correction and rehabilitation centers, ensuring monitoring of individuals within a specified geographic area through the electronic bracelet system.
The Ministry of Justice implements alternative penalties to reduce congestion in correction and rehabilitation centers, especially since the occupancy rate reached 180% as confirmed by Justice Minister Bassam Talhouni.
