Khaberni - An Iranian official told Reuters today, Wednesday, that the new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has sustained minor injuries, but continues his work without offering details about the timing of his injury or the reason for not issuing any public statements since his appointment last Sunday.
This morning, Yusuf Bazshikian, the son of Iranian President Masoud Bazshikian, stated that the supreme leader Mojtaba is well, following reports of his injury during the conflict that erupted with Israel and the United States.
In a post on his Telegram channel, Yusuf, who is an advisor to the government, said, "I heard the news that Mr. Mojtaba Khamenei was injured. I asked some friends who have a wide network of connections and they told me that, thankfully, he is fine.
A senior Israeli official told Reuters that an assessment by Israeli intelligence indicated that Mojtaba sustained minor injuries during the Israeli-American war on his country, which might explain his absence from the public eye since the outbreak of the war.
The New York Times reported, citing three unnamed Iranian officials, that Khamenei "suffered injuries, some to his legs, but remains conscious and is hiding in a highly fortified place with limited communications."
Earlier, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said that any leader appointed by the current Iranian leadership would be "a clear target for elimination."
Mojtaba was elected as the successor to his father Ali Khamenei, who was killed on the first day of the war on February 28, 2026. Following his election, Iranian state television aired a report on his life's major milestones, describing him as a "Ramadan war casualty" ongoing.
Since his appointment as the supreme leader last Sunday, Mojtaba has not delivered any speech to the Iranian nation or issued any written statement, and is known to rarely appear in public or speak at official occasions.
Since February 28 last year, Israel and the United States have launched attacks on Iran, killing hundreds, including the supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, and security officials, and Tehran has responded by launching rockets and drones towards Israel.
Iran also targets what it claims are American interests in the region, but its attacks have resulted in deaths, injuries, and damage to civilian facilities, which the targeted countries have condemned.
