Messenger app uses artificial intelligence to protect you from fraud

Khaberni - "Meta" is preparing to confront scammers across its platforms, with the launch of new artificial intelligence tools and partnerships with legal entities to enhance protection on "Facebook" and Messenger.

The goal: to make fraud more difficult for scammers and easier for users to avoid losses.

Artificial intelligence tools before you fall into the trap
The new features are designed to detect fraud before you become a victim.

On "Facebook," a warning will appear when sending or receiving a friend request from a suspicious account, such as accounts that do not share friends with you or have conflicting geographic information, according to a report published by "digitaltrends" and reviewed by "Al Arabiya Business".

As for "Messenger," fraud detection tools have been developed to include more countries, and now better recognize signs of suspicious messages.

When there are unwanted messages such as dubious job offers, the app will suggest scanning the conversation with artificial intelligence.

If a fraud attempt is identified, you will receive guidance on the warning signs, in addition to options to block or report the account.

In advertisements, "Meta" is working on expanding its advertiser verification program, aiming for 90% of upcoming advertising revenue to come from trusted advertisers by the end of 2026, compared to 70% currently, significantly reducing the chances of advertising fraud.

Combating fraudsters at the source
In addition to the tools, "Meta" collaborates with legal entities to shut down fraud operations globally.

During a joint operation with the FBI, the U.S. Department of Justice, and the Thai police, more than 150,000 accounts linked to fraud centers were disabled, resulting in 21 arrests.

The company also removed more than 159 million fraudulent ads last year, with 92% removed before any user reported them. It also closed 10.9 million accounts on "Facebook" and "Instagram" linked to criminal fraud centers.

What does this mean for you?
With the growing persuasiveness of scammers using artificial intelligence, this additional layer of protection in applications used by billions of people provides a real opportunity to reduce the risks of exposure to fraud on "Facebook" and "Messenger".

The tools will not protect you from all frauds, but they significantly increase your chances of digital safety.
