Khaberni - The Cabinet approved in its session held on Wednesday, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, an amended bill for the Civil Status Law; in preparation for its referral to the House of Representatives to proceed with the enactment procedures according to constitutional principles.
The bill aims to explicitly grant legal validity to digital identity, considering it an officially recognized means of identification alongside the person's ID card issued by the department, granting it the same legal effect in evidence and recognizing the data contained therein, and obliging governmental and private entities to recognize it according to the provisions of the law and the regulations and instructions issued under it.
This comes in line with the directions supporting the development of public administration, and the execution of digital transformation programs by introducing the concept of digital identity within the legislative framework regulating the Civil Status and Passports Department.
This amendment will enable citizens to carry out their transactions electronically in a secure and reliable manner, based on the provisions of the law, ensuring the protection of personal data and its safety and confidentiality.
Moreover, the bill will establish a free digital mailbox on the Sand application for every citizen, establishment, or resident for the purpose of receiving any notifications or e-commerce parcels or postal correspondence, such that the digital mailbox will carry the same number as the regular postal address – if it exists – and the national number will be linked to this address for Jordanian citizens; to facilitate citizens, and this address will be linked to the location of the home or establishment of the mailbox owner (location).
The mechanism for obtaining the digital mail depends on entering information of the Civil Status identity or related documents.
Exemption of the purchases of the National Electric Power Company from diesel and fuel oil materials from all fees and taxes including the special tax, customs duties, and postal stamp duties.
