Khaberni - The official newspaper reported today, Wednesday, that the Spanish government decided yesterday to dismiss its ambassador to Israel.
A source in the Foreign Ministry said that a Chargé d'Affaires will assume management of the Spanish Embassy in Tel Aviv.
The relationship between the two parties reached a high level of tension due to Spain's rejection of the genocide war in Gaza, and as a consequence, Madrid imposed sanctions on Israel, which was met with harsh reactions from Tel Aviv.
Following Spain's recognition of the State of Palestine in May 2024, Israel summoned its ambassador to Madrid, and since then, the level of Israeli diplomatic representation in Spain has been reduced to a Chargé d'Affaires.
Madrid also summoned its ambassador in Israel last week, amid sharp tensions between the two countries, following the Spanish government's announcement of new measures "to put an end to the genocide in Gaza".
