New Security Alert from the US Embassy in Jordan for its Nationals

Khaberni - The U.S. Embassy in Amman issued a new security alert on Wednesday, calling on American citizens present in Jordan to exercise caution and keep abreast of security developments in the region, affirming that it is closely monitoring the developments amidst regional tensions.

The embassy clarified that the United States government provides options to assist Americans in leaving the Middle East, urging its nationals to check their emails for any updates or last-minute changes.

It noted that commercial flights are still operating from Queen Alia International Airport, recommending American citizens to consider departure through these flights if they deem it safe.

The embassy also indicated that a number of land border crossings in Jordan are currently operational, with varying working hours, including the King Hussein/Allenby Bridge, Wadi Araba Crossing, Jordan Valley Crossing, and Jaber Border Crossing with Syria, in addition to border crossings with Saudi Arabia.

The embassy pointed to the availability of ferry services between Aqaba and Egypt for those wishing to leave by sea, advising to directly contact ferry companies to find out the schedules and availability of trips.

In a related context, the embassy reminded that the U.S. Department of State had ordered on March 3 the departure of non-essential U.S. government employees and their families from Jordan, noting the suspension of all routine consular services at the embassy.

The embassy urged American citizens to prepare to shelter in secure locations within their homes or secure buildings when necessary, and to maintain an adequate stock of food, water, medications, and essential supplies, while following the media and adhering to the instructions of local authorities.
