Death of Syrian Poet Ahmad Husseini in Sweden

Khaberni - Syrian poet Ahmad Husseini passed away today, Tuesday, March 10, 2026, in Sweden at the age of 71, following a struggle with a terminal disease.

A source close to the poet stated that Husseini had been residing in Sweden since 1989, where he passed away after suffering from lung cancer, which was diagnosed in 2023, before he traveled to Sweden to receive treatment.

Ahmad Husseini is considered one of the prominent names in the Kurdish literary scene, having left a significant poetic and cultural legacy throughout his career. He published 15 books in the fields of poetry and literature, and also translated the autobiography "The Iron Locust" by writer Salim Barakat from Arabic to Kurdish. In 2015, his complete works were published in an edition that collected his literary output.

Husseini was born in the Syrian city of Amuda in 1955 and studied philosophy at the University of Damascus, where he earned a degree in this field. After years of cultural activity, he left Syria for Lebanon, before eventually settling in Sweden.
