Khaberni - His Majesty King Abdullah II received today, Tuesday, a phone call from the President of the Republic of Gambia Adama Barrow, who chairs the fifteenth session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation conference.
The ramifications of the escalation in the region and the Iranian assaults on Jordan and several other regional countries were discussed. His Majesty emphasized the importance of intensifying efforts to achieve de-escalation through dialogue and the use of diplomatic channels, warning against using the current developments as a pretext to violate the freedom of worshippers to access the Al-Aqsa Mosque/Blessed Al-Haram Al-Sharif, and to change the status quo in the West Bank and Gaza.
For his part, the President of Gambia stressed the need for restraint, respect for international law, and the protection of civilians in the Middle East.
His Majesty also received a phone call from the German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, to discuss regional developments and ways to de-escalate the situation.
His Majesty stressed the necessity of respecting the sovereignty of states and resorting to dialogue and diplomacy to resolve crises, indicating that Jordan will continue to take all necessary measures to protect its security, sovereignty, and the safety of its citizens.
His Majesty the King warned against exploiting the ongoing conflict in the region to impose a new reality in the West Bank, Jerusalem, and Gaza.
