Egypt Removal of the controversial doctor Diaa AlAwadi from the Doctors registry

Khaberni -  The Primary Disciplinary Committee of the Egyptian Medical Syndicate decided to remove Dr. Diaa Al-Awadi, a consultant in anesthesia, intensive care, and pain management, from the syndicate's records and to revoke his membership.

The decision was made after it was proven that Diaa Al-Awadi committed serious professional violations related to disseminating unscientifically verified medical information via social media platforms.

Publishing medical opinions outside the scope of specialization

The syndicate clarified that the investigations revealed that the doctor published opinions and conclusions that were not supported by scientific evidence, covering various specializations not within his field of work, including diabetes, nephrology, gastroenterology, cardiology, oncology, immunology, and hormonal disorders, in addition to promoting unapproved therapeutic methods by scientific and regulatory bodies.

Content contravening evidence-based medicine principles

The disciplinary committee noted in the grounds of its decision that the content presented by the doctor was definitive and absolute in complex medical matters, presenting unverified conclusions as scientific facts, in violation of the principles of evidence-based medicine, which could pose a risk to public health, especially as some patients rely on social media to obtain medical information.

Health risks due to inaccurate information

The committee added that the published material included downplaying the risks of elevated blood sugar levels, questioning some approved diagnostic indicators, and promoting scientifically unproven treatment methods in areas such as organ transplantation, cancer treatment, and therapeutic dietary regimes, which could lead some patients to stop necessary treatments or follow incorrect health practices that could endanger their lives.

Violation of professional laws and regulations

They affirmed that these practices represent a clear violation of the medical practice law, the medical syndicate law, and the professional conduct regulations, in addition to violating laws regulating the advertisement of health services, due to the content including therapeutic claims without scientific basis or approval from the competent authorities.

Legal actions and notifications to relevant authorities

Based on the foregoing, the disciplinary committee decided to remove the doctor from the syndicate's records and drop his membership in absentia after proving the allegations against him, considering that his actions represent a serious breach of professional conduct rules and harm public trust in the medical profession.

In the same context, the Egyptian Medical Syndicate announced that it has filed an official complaint with the Prosecutor General concerning the content of misleading medical information that could pose a risk to the health of citizens, and has also contacted the Supreme Council for Media Regulation and the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority to take the necessary actions regarding the publication or circulation of unverified medical content on media platforms and social networks.

Emphasis on protecting patients and preserving the profession

The syndicate council stressed that the decision comes within the framework of its commitment to protect patients and preserve the status of the medical profession, confirming that providing medical information to the public must be based on documented scientific evidence and approved professional standards.
