Khaberni - Human Rights Watch confirmed Israel's use of white phosphorus munitions in residential areas of Yomour village in southern Lebanon on March 3, in violation of international humanitarian law.
The organization verified seven photos showing explosions of white phosphorus shells in the air over populated areas, causing fires in at least two homes and civilian properties.
White phosphorus ignites when exposed to oxygen and can cause death or permanent injuries.
Human Rights Watch identified artillery shells of the M825 type 155 mm based on distinctive smoke trail patterns. The airborne use of explosive white phosphorus is an indiscriminate and illegal use in populated areas.
Human Rights Watch urged Israel's allies, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany, to suspend arms sales and impose sanctions on officials.
More than 500,000 Lebanese were displaced, 394 people were killed, and 1,000 others were injured in Israeli attacks.
