Pakistan orders closure of schools across the country to save fuel

Khaberni - The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif, announced the closure of all schools in Pakistan for two weeks starting from the end of this week, while universities and higher education institutions will immediately switch to remote learning as part of emergency measures to ration fuel usage.

Earlier today, Bangladesh closed all public and private universities and extended the Eid al-Fitr holiday to save electricity and fuel, following the war in Iran affecting global energy supplies.

The country depends on imports from the Gulf states for 95% of its energy needs, making it vulnerable to shortages and price hikes.

Authorities also imposed daily limits on fuel sales following panic buying incidents, while the closure of universities also aims to reduce electricity consumption and traffic congestion.

The Telegraph reports the current energy stockpile: 120,000 tons of diesel (about 14 days), 14,000 tons of gasoline (about 14 days), 22,000 tons of octane (about 24 days).
